Morning Pages: The Simple Daily Practice That Changed My Life
From mental noise to emotional clarity — one page at a time.
When I first heard about Morning Pages through Julia Cameron’s book The Artist’s Way, I had one thought:
“Three handwritten pages every morning? It felt a lot. Who has time for that?”
It felt unrealistic, even indulgent — especially in a world where speed, productivity, and constant doing are worshipped.
But after nearly a year of daily Morning Pages, I can say this with full conviction:
This practice has deeply transformed my life.
What Are Morning Pages?
Morning Pages are a simple yet powerful tool created by Julia Cameron. The idea is to write three longhand pages of free-flowing, stream-of-consciousness thoughts every morning — before emails, before social media, before the mental noise of the day kicks in.
You write whatever comes to mind.
It doesn't have to be deep or poetic.
It doesn’t have to be “right.”
There’s no audience.
Just you and the page.
It can be messy, boring, angry, confused, repetitive, inspired — it’s all welcome.
Why I Started Morning Pages
I began Morning Pages during a period of deep emotional work. As a somatic guide and EFT practitioner, I spend a lot of time helping others reconnect to their bodies and emotions. But even for me, there were moments when my mind was louder than my body.
The anxiety.
The looping thoughts.
The “to-do list” that never ended.
The emotional fog.
I wanted to find a gentle, consistent way to release mental overload and better channel my energy. Morning Pages became that practice.
What Morning Pages Have Done for Me
After years of Morning Pages, here’s what I’ve experienced:
1. Creative Ideas Flow with Ease
Some of my most aligned ideas for workshops, programs, and content have come while writing my Morning Pages. It’s like clearing out the mental clutter opens a direct line to my intuitive, creative self.
2. My Emotions Have Space to Breathe
Writing by hand gives my emotions form.
I’ve cried on the page.
Raged.
Grieved.
Let go.
And returned to calm.
Morning Pages are like emotional hygiene.
Just as we shower each day, this is a cleansing for the soul.
3. My Overactive Mind Finally Quieted
Before this practice, my thoughts felt chaotic — like too many tabs open in a browser. Morning Pages help me close the tabs one by one.
The mental noise softens.
My focus sharpens.
And I start the day feeling clear, not overwhelmed.
4. I Feel More Grounded and Present
After years of burnout and disconnection from my body, Morning Pages have become a soft anchor in my day. They slow me down, reconnect me to my truth, and help me feel safe inside myself.
Why Write by Hand?
You might wonder: Why not just type on your laptop?
Writing by hand forces us to slow down.
It reconnects us to the body.
It makes us feel.
Typing can become performative, even when we’re writing for ourselves. Handwriting is raw, imperfect, and beautifully human.
Morning Pages and EFT: A Perfect Match
As an EFT Practitioner, I often guide clients in releasing emotional blocks, limiting beliefs, and trauma held in the body.
But here’s what I’ve noticed:
Sometimes the mental narrative is so loud that it takes up all the space.
That’s why I often recommend Morning Pages as part of our work together. It helps to:
Offload the mind’s chatter
Make space for deeper emotional processing
Identify recurring thoughts or patterns we can then tap on
Bring the subconscious forward
Morning Pages + EFT = a powerful duo for emotional clarity, healing, and transformation.
My Personal Morning Pages Practice
Here’s exactly how I do it — feel free to adapt this to what works for you.
I wake up, say a small affirmation ("Today is going to be the best day ever"), then make a warm drink.
I sit down with my pen and journal and start writing. No agenda. No filter.
The first two pages are for whatever is swirling in my mind — anything from “I feel tired and annoyed” to deep reflections or memories.
The third page is where I intentionally redirect my energy. I set intentions, visualize my day going well, and speak lovingly to myself.
Some mornings, I talk to the Universe or my higher self. Some days, I just ramble.
It all counts.
“But I Don’t Have Time…”
I get it. Life is full. Mornings can be chaotic.
But here’s the truth:
Morning Pages don’t take time. They give you time.
They make you more focused, more centered, and more productive throughout the day.
That 30 minutes of journaling could actually save you hours of scattered energy, second-guessing, or burnout.
How to Start Your Own Morning Pages Practice
If you're curious to try this practice, here’s a gentle way to begin:
Set your favorite journal and pen out
Commit to trying it for just one morning
Wake up 30 minutes earlier (you’ll survive, promise!)
Write anything and everything for three pages
Don’t read it. Just let it go.
Do it again the next day — and build the habit, one day at a time
Pro tip: Track your progress on a calendar. Don’t break the chain. Find accountability.
Morning Pages are not magic.
But they do create space — and in that space, magic can happen.
They have helped me soften, release, and reconnect. They’ve supported my nervous system, deepened my creativity, and helped me listen — not just to my mind, but to my soul.
And in combination with EFT, breathwork, and sound healing, they are one of the most powerful tools I can offer.
If you feel called to try this practice, I’d love to hear how it lands for you.
